Berberine hydrochloride

It has inhibitory effects on Escherichia coli, Escherichia coli, Diplococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus, Typhi and amoeba. Clinically, it is mainly used to destroy infections and bacteria. It was also found that this product has an anti-arrhythmic effect. Berberine has anti-tumor activity in vitro and can induce the secretion of B16 cells; the same as cytarabine hydrochloride has a good effect in vitro.

Purpose
An isoquinoline alkaloid. Molecular formula [C20H18NO4]+. Also known as berberine. It exists in many plants in 10 genera and 4 families including Berberidaceae. Berberine can precipitate yellow needle-like crystals from diethyl ether. Melting point 145℃. Soluble in water, insoluble in benzene, ether and chloroform. Berberine is a quaternary ammonium alkaloid, and the solubility of its salts in water is relatively small, for example, the hydrochloride is 1:500 and the sulfate is 1:30. The crystals of berberine precipitated from water or dilute ethanol contain 5.5 molecules of crystal water; if crystallized from chloroform, acetone or benzene, they also contain corresponding crystallization solvent molecules. Berberine can be treated with different alkali to obtain three different forms of berberine: quaternary ammonium form, aldehyde form and alcohol form, among which the quaternary ammonium form is the most stable. Berberine has antibacterial effects on hemolytic Streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Freundii and Shigella dysenteriae, and enhances the phagocytosis of white blood cells. Berberine hydrochloride (commonly known as berberine hydrochloride) has been widely used to treat gastroenteritis, bacillary dysentery, etc., and also has certain effects on tuberculosis, scarlet fever, acute tonsillitis and respiratory infections.

pharmacology
pharmacodynamics
It has a broad antibacterial spectrum and has antibacterial effects on a variety of Gram-positive and -negative bacteria in vitro, including hemolytic Streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, and Vibrio cholerae. Meningococci, Shigella dysenteriae, Typhoid bacilli, Diphtheria bacilli, etc. have strong inhibitory effects. They are bacteriostatic at low concentrations and sterilizing at high concentrations. It also has certain inhibitory effects on influenza viruses, amoeba, leptospira, and certain skin fungi. In vitro experiments have confirmed that berberine can enhance the phagocytic ability of leukocytes and liver reticuloendothelial system. Shigella dysenteriae, hemolytic Streptococcus, Staphylococcus aureus, etc. are easily resistant to this product. There is no cross-resistance between this product and penicillin and streptomycin.

Pharmacokinetics
Poor oral absorption. After injection, it quickly enters various organs and tissues, and the blood concentration is maintained for a short time. The blood concentration after intramuscular injection is lower than the minimum inhibitory concentration. The drug is widely distributed, mostly in the heart, bones, lungs and liver. The retention time in tissues is short, and only a trace amount remains after 24 hours. Most of the drugs are metabolized and eliminated in the body, and only less than 5% of the administered dose is excreted in the original form within 48 hours.
According to recent reports, it is believed that this product can reduce the number of pili on the surface of bacteria, preventing bacteria from attaching to human cells, and has a therapeutic effect. This product also has an effect on Helicobacter and can alleviate gastritis, gastric and duodenal ulcers.

Disabled and used with caution
Although it can be used in children, it is contraindicated in children with hereditary glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency because this product can cause hemolytic anemia and lead to jaundice.

Adverse reactions
(1) Oral adverse reactions are rare, with occasional nausea, vomiting, rash and drug fever, which disappear after stopping the drug.
(2) Intravenous injection or infusion can cause reactions such as vasodilation, blood pressure drop, and cardiac depression. In severe cases, Aspen syndrome may occur, and even death. China has announced the elimination of various injections of berberine hydrochloride.
A few people have mild abdominal or stomach discomfort, constipation or diarrhea.
